Punjab Kings finally turned the tables
Punjab Kings defeated Gujarat Titans by three wickets in the IPL 2024 match played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. This is Punjab's second win in four matches in the current season of IPL. Punjab had to face defeat in two matches earlier, but the team overcame the adverse circumstances and defeated Gujarat on its home ground. Gujarat, batting first, scored 199 runs for four wickets with the help of captain Shubman Gill's unbeaten 89 runs in 48 balls with the help of six fours and four sixes. Punjab Kings did not have a good start while chasing the target, but Shashank and Ashutosh Sharma, who entered the field as impact sub, brought the team back into the match. With the help of these two batsmen, Punjab registered victory by scoring 200 runs for seven wickets with one ball remaining. With this, Punjab chased the biggest score of this season.
Noor Ahmed gave shocks to Punjab
Chasing a big target, Punjab had a very poor start. Fast bowler Umesh Yadav bowled captain Shikhar Dhawan on the very first ball of his first over. Dhawan was out after scoring one run. After this, Jonny Bairstow along with Prabhsimran Singh handled the Punjab innings, but spinner Noor Ahmed first bowled Bairstow who was out after scoring 22 runs with the help of four fours in 13 balls. After this Noor dismissed Prabhsimran Singh at the hands of Mohit Sharma. Prabhasimran returned to the pavilion as the third batsman after scoring 35 runs in 24 balls. From here Punjab's innings faltered and then Azmatullah sent Sam Curran to the pavilion on the score of just five runs. The remaining task was completed by Mohit Sharma by dismissing Sikandar Raza.
Shashank-Ashutosh made a comeback
Punjab's situation was looking very bad at one time and half of the team's batsmen had returned to the pavilion at 115 runs. After this, Jitesh Sharma opened his hands and hit two sixes, but Rashid soon showed him the way to the pavilion. After this, Shashank and Ashutosh Sharma, who came on the field as impact players, showed their colours. Both the batsmen thrashed the Gujarat bowlers. There was a partnership of 43 runs between these two batsmen for the seventh wicket.
thrill of the last over
Punjab needed seven runs to win in the last over with three wickets remaining. Nalkande came to bowl for Gujarat. He sent Ashutosh to the pavilion by getting him caught by Rashid on the very first ball. Its next ball was declared wide. Harpreet Brar, who came in as the new batsman, missed the next ball and took a run on the third ball. Now Punjab needed five runs from three balls. Shashank hit a four on the fourth ball and the score became equal. A run was scored on the fifth ball through leg bye and Punjab registered a thrilling victory.
Shubman made the highest individual score of this season
Earlier, for Gujarat, captain Shubman Gill played an unbeaten inning of 89 runs with the help of six fours and four sixes in 48 balls. Gill scored his first half-century of this season of IPL. This is the 19th fifty of Gill's career. Gill has scored six half-centuries in nine innings against Punjab since 2019. Even though Gill missed the century, he rescued the team with his performance. On the basis of this innings of Gill, Gujarat was successful in setting the target of 200 runs in front of Punjab. Gill has become the player with the highest individual score this season.
Both teams made one change each
Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan won the toss in this match and decided to bowl first. Punjab captain Dhawan made a change in the playing-11 for this match. Sikandar Raza was given a place in the team in place of Liam Livingstone. At the same time, Gujarat captain Shubman Gill has also made a change and has not given place to David Miller in the playing-11. In place of Miller, Kane Williamson was given a chance who played his first match in this season of IPL. Miller could not play in this match due to injury.
Rabada gave the first success
Gujarat Titans got their first blow in the form of Wriddhiman Saha in the match played against Punjab Kings. Saha was out after scoring 11 runs on 13 balls. Saha was made his victim by fast bowler Kagiso Rabada. This is the fourth time in the last five innings of IPL that Rabada has made Saha his victim. Gujarat Titans captain Shubhman Gill and Kane Williamson took charge of the innings after facing the first blow against Punjab Kings. Gill and Williamson did not allow any other wicket to fall till the end of the powerplay. However, Punjab Kings got the second success by Harpreet Brar and dismissed Kane Williamson. Williamson, who played his first match this season, scored 26 runs with the help of four fours in 22 balls.
Gill-Sudarshan took over
After two setbacks, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan took over the innings of Gujarat Titans. Sudarshan hit three fours from the over of Sikandar Raza who came to bowl the 12th over. As soon as Sudarshan arrived, it rained squares. However, Harshal Patel got Sudarshan out by getting him caught behind the wicket. Sudarshan hit six fours in his innings of 33 runs in 19 balls. The interesting thing was that Sudarshan was not declared out by the umpire, but Sudarshan, showing sportsmanship, thought it appropriate to go out of the pavilion. Sudarshan tried to pull Harshal's ball which was caught by wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma. Harshal appealed, but the umpire declared it not out, but Sudarshan knew that the ball had taken the edge of the bat to the wicketkeeper. So he himself proceeded towards the pavilion.
