Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar and MLC Bhai Channaraj Hattiholi narrowly escape
Suffered minor injuries in road accident
The sessions court is hearing the case of the bus accident that took place in Mumbai last month. The sessions court rejected the bail plea of the accused bus driver, saying that the bus driver drove recklessly and there was no reason to believe that there was any technical fault in the bus. Additional Sessions Judge V M Pathade rejected the bail plea of accused driver Sanjay More (54) on January 10. The details of this order came out on Tuesday.
The bus refused to accept the arguments of the accused driver
The accused bus driver, while seeking bail from the court, had argued that the accident occurred due to mechanical fault in the bus. More has claimed that the accident occurred due to poor maintenance of the bus or brake failure or technical fault. But the court refused to accept this argument. The RTO (Regional Transport Office) report stated that there was no mechanical fault in the bus. The court said, 'It is difficult to believe that there was any mechanical/technical fault or brake failure in the bus, which caused this unfortunate accident.'
'The driver negligently endangered the lives of people'
The court said that due to the negligence of the driver, not only the lives of the passengers in the bus were in danger, but the lives of the people walking on the crowded road were also in danger. The order said, 'Prima facie it is seen that the accused was driving the bus very fast and carelessly, while many other people were also using the road and there were many passengers in the bus.' The judge said, 'Considering the gravity of the crime and the crimes under which the accused has been booked, the case of releasing the accused on bail does not seem appropriate.'
It is worth noting that on December 9, an electric bus operated by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking hit pedestrians and vehicles on a crowded road near Kurla railway station. Seven people lost their lives and more than 40 were injured in the accident. The accused driver Sanjay More was arrested the same night.
