Lakshya Sen's hard work wasted
The first win will not be considered due to this badminton rule!
India's badminton star Lakshya Sen's entire hard work was wasted. His first win in the Paris Olympics 2024 was declared 'invalid'. Lakshya's victory in the very first match had boosted the morale of the rest of the players, but now after his victory being 'invalid', the morale of many Indian athletes along with him may be hurt. But why was Lakshya's last win declared 'invalid'? Let's know the rule behind this.
Actually, Lakshya defeated Kevin Cordon of Guatemala in his first match on Saturday, July 27. In the match, Lakshya won against Kevin by 21-8 and 22-20. Lakshya is present in Group-L of Men's Singles of Badminton. A total of 4 players including Lakshya were present in this group. Kevin Cordon, who lost to Lakshya, was also a part of this group. Now Kevin has withdrawn his name from the Olympics due to injury. Kevin Cardon suffered an injury to his left elbow.
With Kevin's withdrawal, Lakshya's victory became 'invalid'. The Badminton World Federation announced that Indian badminton star Lakshya Sen's win against Kevin Cardon will not be considered as the Guatemalan player has withdrawn from the competition due to injury.
The Badminton Federation issued an update saying, "Guatemala's men's singles player Kevin Cardon has withdrawn from the Paris Olympics 2024 badminton competition due to a left elbow injury." Now Lakshya will have to play one match more than all the players in his group. Now all the players in the group will play two matches each, but Lakshya has already played one match.
Who will Lakshya play against next
Let us tell you that apart from Lakshya, Indonesia's Christie Jonatan and Belgium's Caraggi Julian are left in Group-L of badminton's men's singles. Lakshya's next match will be against Carraggi Julian on Monday, 29th July and then his last match will be against Christie Jonatan on Wednesday, 31st July.
