India recovered 'double tax' from England
Team India reached the final after 10 years, will fight for the title with South Africa
After the brilliant batting of captain Rohit Sharma (57) and Suryakumar Yadav (47), thanks to 3-3 wickets of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, India defeated defending champion England by 68 runs and entered the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. India will now face South Africa in the final on Saturday, 29 June. In the second semi-final held at Providence Stadium in Guyana, India batted first and scored 171 runs for 7 wickets and then bundled out England for 103 runs in 16.4 overs.
With this win, India has also avenged the crushing 10-wicket defeat to England in the 2022 semi-final. The Indian team has reached the T20 World Cup final for the third time after 2007 and 2014. The 2007 champion Indian team has a chance to become champion for the second time by defeating South Africa in the final of T20 World Cup 2024. All-rounder Axar Patel, who scored 10 runs in batting and took 3 wickets in bowling, got the Man of the Match award.
England, chasing the target of 172 runs given by India, captain Jos Buttler (23) and Phil Salt (5) added 26 runs in three overs for the first wicket. But Axar Patel took charge in the fourth over itself and on the very first ball, Butler, who was becoming dangerous, was caught out by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. Butler was dismissed after hitting four fours in 15 balls. After his dismissal, Jasprit Bumrah bowled Salt in the very next over.
After the dismissal of both the openers, Axar also bowled Jonny Bairstow (0) in his second over without opening the account. England lost three wickets for 39 runs in the first six overs. Akshar then stumped Moeen Ali (8) to give India their fourth success. After Moeen's dismissal, Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Sam Curran (2) on the very first ball of his second over. England's team got into trouble from here as half of their team returned to the pavilion within 49 runs.
Meanwhile, Liam Livingstone (11) and Harry Brook (25) added 19 runs for the sixth wicket. But Kuldeep clean bowled Brook as soon as he came and gave England the sixth blow. Brook hit three fours in 19 balls. England's team kept losing wickets after this and was reduced to 103 in 16.4 overs.
For India, apart from Akshar and Kuldeep's three wickets each, Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets.
Earlier, after losing the toss and batting first, the Indian team scored 171 runs for 7 wickets after playing the full 20 overs. India did not have a good start and lost the wickets of Virat Kohli (9) and Rishabh Pant (4) for 40 runs within the powerplay.
