India defeated China 1-0 to become champions for a record fifth time thanks to Jugraj Singh's goal in the fourth quarter of the final of the Asian Champions Trophy Hockey 2024. Defending champions India were eyeing to win a record fifth ACT title and now that dream has come true. India have been the best team of the tournament so far, scoring 26 goals and conceding only five goals. India made it to the final by defeating Korea 4-1 in the semi-finals. Captain Harmanpreet Singh was also trying to join the top scorer list and scored a total of seven goals.

It was not easy for the defending champions and Paris Olympics bronze medalists as they were not able to get past the Chinese defense in the first three quarters. Eventually, defender Jugraj Singh scored a brilliant field goal in the 51st minute to shatter China's hopes and give his team the title. Earlier in the day, Pakistan defeated Korea 5-2 to finish third in the six-team competition.

India won the tournament for the fifth time, making them the most successful nation in the event. The tournament began in 2011. Pakistan has won it three times and South Korea won the title once in Dhaka in 2021. India last won the title in 2023 by defeating Malaysia 4-3 in Chennai. In this way India has retained the title. However, this time, the win was not easy for India in front of the home crowd of China. China put a lot of pressure on India throughout the match, but Harmanpreet Singh and Co. kept their composure and eventually won.

In the sixth minute of the fourth quarter, Harmanpreet made a brilliant run and passed the pass from the long corner to Jugraj, who was standing alone in the goal circle. Jugraj took advantage of the opportunity and put the ball past the Chinese goalkeeper into the goal post. Although China had possession of the ball for 66 percent of the match, India made more circle penetrations than China and also got more penalty corners. There were no goals in the first three quarters as both the teams were not successful in scoring goals.
