Sushant was found dead in the apartment

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his apartment in Bandra, Mumbai on June 14, 2020. He was hanging from the fan in his room. He was only 34 years old at that time. Mumbai Police started investigating it as a case of suicide. The postmortem report also said that he died of suffocation. Initially it seemed like a simple case, but soon this case became the biggest topic of discussion in the country.

Father filed a case

After Sushant's death, his family could not believe it. His father KK Singh lodged an FIR in Patna on July 28. In this, serious allegations were made against Sushant's alleged girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her family. KK Singh said that Rhea trapped Sushant in the trap of love, grabbed his money and provoked him to suicide.

CBI started investigation after the police

Seeing the matter getting heated, Rhea Chakraborty filed a petition in the Supreme Court. She wanted the case to remain in Mumbai. But on August 19, 2020, the Supreme Court gave a big decision. The court said that the CBI will investigate it. The court also ordered the Maharashtra government to cooperate with the CBI. After this, the case went from Bihar Police to the CBI.

Rhea and her brother were arrested
The CBI started the investigation in August 2020. Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Shouvik, Sushant's staff and close friends were questioned. During this, the angle of drugs and money laundering also came to the fore. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested Rhea and Shouvik on 8 September 2020 in the drugs case. However, they later got bail. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) also investigated the money transactions. But despite all this, the mystery of Sushant's death was not solved.

Murder not confirmed in AIIMS report

The CBI took help from AIIMS forensic experts. The AIIMS team gave its report. The report rejected claims of strangulation or any conspiracy. But the fans and the family did not accept this result.

CBI filed closure report

The CBI investigation lasted for more than four years. During this time many questions were raised, but no concrete answers were found. According to the latest report till March 22, 2025, the CBI filed its closure report in this case in a special court in Mumbai. According to the report, the CBI did not find actress Rhea Chakraborty guilty of abetting Sushant to suicide. In the final report of CBI, the real reason for Sushant's death has been said to be suicide.
