New Storytelling Initiative Announced in India
New Delhi. Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the global recognition of Indian stories and strengthening the country's creative industry. During the meeting, Netflix announced the "Netflix India Storytelling Initiative," which aims to nurture a new generation of storytellers in India and provide them with training tailored to the modern media and entertainment industry.
Emphasis on Making India a Global Content Hub
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after the meeting, stated on social media that India has a rich storytelling tradition and exceptional creative talent. He expressed confidence that by effectively utilizing these capabilities, India can be further strengthened as a global content creation hub.
Netflix to Invest in India's Talent
Ted Sarandos said that India has always been one of the world's richest storytelling nations. He stated that over the past decade, Indian stories have received immense appreciation not only from the country but also from audiences around the world. He stated that Netflix's biggest investment in the coming years will be in Indian creators and new talent, who will bring the stories of the future to the world.
New initiative will provide a platform for young creators
According to Sarandos, the Netflix India Storytelling Initiative will provide new opportunities to emerging creators and strengthen the country's creative ecosystem. He stated that investing in creative talent is tantamount to investing in India's future.
Partnerships with creative technology institutes
In the first phase of this initiative, Netflix will collaborate with the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) to develop courses tailored to industry needs on topics such as visual effects mastery and media technology workflows. The aim is to provide students with the skills necessary for changing production techniques and the modern entertainment industry.
Scholarships for students
Under this program, Netflix will also provide scholarships to Indian students in various creative fields. These will include courses such as interactive comics and sequential art, virtual art department content creation, character animation, e-sports, and gaming management.
Collaboration with NFDC in the second phase
In the next phase of the program, Netflix will work with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). This collaboration will train audio description writers and voice artists to make films and web series more accessible to audiences with disabilities. This initiative will also create new employment opportunities and promote inclusivity in the entertainment industry, in line with the Prime Minister's accessibility agenda.
