Why is Dev Deepawali celebrated?

According to mythology, there was a demon named Tripurasura who had taken over all the three worlds including heaven on the strength of his power. Even the gods were troubled by his terror. Then all the gods reached the refuge of Lord Shiva and prayed to him for help. After this, Lord Shiva killed Tripurasura. In the joy of the end of Tripurasura, all the gods reached Lord Shiva's abode Kashi and thanked him and lit lamps on the banks of the Ganges. It is said that since then this day came to be known as Dev Deepawali. Let us tell you that the day Tripurasura was killed was the full moon date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month.
