The ongoing dispute over tariffs had not even ended when America objected to India buying weapons from Russia. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said that India should end its dependence on Russian weapons. He said that doing so will make the relationship between India and America even stronger.

America objects to buying weapons from Russia

At the India Today Conclave, Howard Lutnick reiterated Trump's statement on India-US relations and tariffs. He said that India is among those countries that impose the highest tariffs on American goods. He said that India has purchased a large amount of military equipment from Russia, which needs to be stopped. India has been buying weapons along with petroleum from Russia for a long time.

Howard Lutnick also said that as an alternative, America is ready to give modern weapons to India. It is clear from his statement that America wants India to depend on the US instead of Russia for its military weapons.

Questions raised on India being a member of BRICS

The American minister also raised questions on India being a member of BRICS. He said, "India is a part of BRICS and it is trying to create a currency that can replace the US dollar as the global economic currency. These things do not strengthen mutual relations, which India should understand. We want trade to be fair."

After assuming power in America, Donald Trump had given a strict warning to the BRICS countries by making his stand clear against de-dollarization. He said that if BRICS tried to remove the US dollar as the main currency in global trade, then 100 percent duty would be imposed on their exports.
