Saharanpur, on the demand of the people of Saharanpur, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had given the assurance of building a rail line from Saharanpur to Dehradun via Shakumbhari Devi. An amount of 2.3 crores was released for the survey of the rail line and instructions were given to prepare the DPR of the project in 18 months. Currently, the distance between Saharanpur and Dehradun is 112 km, which will be reduced to 81 km once the railway line starts. In the first phase, a 40 km rail line will be laid from Saharanpur to Shakumbhari Devi and in the next phase, a 41 km long line will be laid from Shakumbhari Devi to Harra Wala in Dehradun. An 11 km long tunnel will be built between the Shivalik hills and 106 small and big bridges will be built. Tenders for laying the first phase of the railway line will be invited soon. Since the survey work has been completed. A total of eight stations will be built on this railway route.
