New Delhi: Competition among giants in the Indian cable and wire industry has entered a new phase. Shares of established companies witnessed widespread selling after UltraTech Cement, the flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, announced the formal launch of its new business, 'Ultravolt' Wires & Cables.

This premature strategic move has raised fears of a major shift in the existing structure of the cable and wire market, which has previously been dominated by companies like Polycab India, KEI Industries, and RR Cable.

Selling Pressure on Cable Stocks
UltraTech's move had the greatest impact on leading companies in the sector:

KEI Industries: The worst affected, with shares falling more than 6%.

Shares of other major companies: Polycab India, RR Cable, Havells India, Finolex Cables, and V-Marc India also saw sharp declines of up to 4%.

A Big ₹1,800 Crore Bet and Ambitious Goal
UltraTech has committed a capital investment (Capex) of ₹1,800 crore for this new segment. The company has made its aggressive intentions clear by launching Ultravolt ahead of its scheduled deadline. UltraTech's clear goal is to become one of the top two cable and wire companies in India within the next five years.

Market Reaction: UltraTech Shares Rise
While shares of competitors were trading in the red, UltraTech Cement shares showed investor confidence, rising to ₹11,343.

Market Cap: The company's total market capitalization (M-Cap) remains close to ₹3.34 lakh crore.

Yearly Performance: UltraTech's stock has declined 4.8% so far in 2026, compared to an 8.6% decline in the benchmark Nifty 50 during the same period.

Given UltraTech's extensive distribution network and strong brand value, analysts believe that Ultravolt's entry could increase price competition and pressure margins in the sector.
