Grand Musical Akhand Ramayana Recitation and Suhagli Pujan Held in Matwara; Villagers Immersed in Faith and Devotion
Maihar, Located within the Amdara police station area of the district, in the village panchayat of Matwara, lies the ancient shrine of Kuldevi (family deity) Singhvahini Mata—a revered center of faith. On Monday, a two-day musical *Akhand Ramayana* (continuous recitation of the Ramayana) commenced at this sacred site with immense faith, devotion, and enthusiasm. Organized by the village's Durga Prasad Mishra and his family, this religious event has drawn a large number of villagers, devotees, and female worshippers, all participating to earn spiritual merit.
Situated amidst hundreds of trees within the natural surroundings of Matwara village, this holy abode of Singhvahini Mata has served as a focal point of the villagers' faith for years. Nestled amidst lush greenery and a tranquil atmosphere, the Mother Goddess's shrine offers devotees spiritual peace and positive energy. From early morning, the entire venue was immersed in a devotional atmosphere, resonating with the melodious sounds of *Chaupais* (verses) from the Ramayana, *Bhajans* (devotional songs), *Kirtans*, and the rhythmic beats of drums and cymbals.
During the religious proceedings, the women of the Mishra family also conducted a traditional *Suhagli Pujan* (worship ritual for married women) alongside 14 other married women. With strict adherence to rituals, the women offered prayers before Mata Singhvahini, seeking eternal marital bliss, the happiness and prosperity of their families, and the overall well-being of the village. A palpable sense of enthusiasm and deep reverence was evident among the women throughout the worship ceremony.
According to the villagers, Singhvahini Mata holds immense significance and reverence. It is said that any devotee who approaches the Mother Goddess's shrine with a sincere heart and a specific wish will invariably have their desire fulfilled. For this very reason, devotees from neighboring villages also flock to this site to offer their prayers and seek her blessings. The villagers firmly believe that Mata Singhvahini acts as the guardian of the entire village, shielding her devotees from every form of adversity and danger.
During the *Akhand Ramayana* recitation, local artists and *Bhajan* troupes are delivering musical performances, thereby rendering the atmosphere of the event even more captivating and spiritually uplifting. At the venue, villagers have united and are actively participating in various voluntary service activities.
Providing details regarding the event, the organizing committee announced that the two-day Ramayana recitation will conclude on Thursday with a *Purnahuti* (concluding ritual) and a grand community feast (*Bhandara*), during which *Prasad* will be distributed to devotees from the entire village and the surrounding areas.
Held in the village of Matwara, this religious event stands not only as a symbol of faith and devotion but also serves as a beautiful testament to social harmony, familial unity, and the rich Indian Sanatan culture.
