An official statement said that “Today, at about 1500 hours, unidentified terrorists opened fire on an army vehicle moving between Bhimber Gali and Poonch in Rajouri sector, taking advantage of heavy rain and low visibility. The vehicle caught fire due to the use of a grenade by the terrorists.”
Army Chief informed the Defense Minister
Army Chief General Manoj Pandey informed Defense Minister Rajnath Singh about the martyrdom of five soldiers in this terrorist attack. It has been told by defense sources that Indian Army personnel are monitoring the situation on the ground and are taking appropriate action.
The statement further said that five personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles unit deployed for anti-terrorist operations in the area have lost their lives. It added, “Another seriously injured soldier was immediately rushed to the Army Hospital in Rajouri and is undergoing treatment. The operation is on to trace the culprits.”
There could be a terrorist attack. Top police sources had said that bullet casings were found on the spot, adding that some bullets may have hit the vehicle and it could be an ambush.
