Visakhapatnam, After sharp bowling by Mitchell Starc and Kuldeep Yadav, Faf du Plessis' half-century helped Delhi Capitals register their second consecutive win in two matches by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday.

Chasing the target of 164 runs set by Sunrisers, Delhi Capitals scored an easy victory by scoring 166 runs for three wickets in 16 overs with an 81-run partnership for the first wicket between Du Plessis (50 runs, 27 balls, three fours, three sixes) and Jack Fraser McGurk (38).

Abhishek Porel (34 not out, 18 balls, two fours, two sixes) and Tristan Stubbs (21 not out, 14 balls, three fours) shared an unbroken 51-run partnership for the fourth wicket to take the team to the target.

Stark earlier bowled his career best, taking five wickets for 35 runs while Kuldeep took three wickets for 22 runs, which resulted in Sunrisers being all out for 163 runs in 18.4 overs.

Sunrisers lost wickets at regular intervals and only Aniket Verma (74 runs, 41 balls, six sixes, five fours) and Heinrich Klaasen (32) were able to bat steadily. Both of them also shared a 77-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Apart from these two, only Travis Head (22) could reach double figures.

Du Plessis and Fraser McGurk gave Delhi a good start by adding 52 runs in the power play to chase the target. Fraser McGurk hit a six off Abhishek Sharma while Du Plessis hit a six and a four off consecutive balls of Mohammad Shami. Du Plessis then hit another six off Shami.

Fraser McGurk was lucky on a score of eight when Aniket failed to catch his difficult catch at mid-off off captain Pat Cummins. Du Plessis also hit a four and a six off consecutive balls of Cummins. He completed his half-century in 26 balls with a run off Harshal Patel but then got caught by Wiaan Mulder off Zeeshan Ansari in the 10th over.

Fraser McGurk hit two fours and a six off consecutive balls in the same over of Zeeshan but the next ball went back into the bowler's hands. He faced 32 balls and hit four fours and two sixes. Lokesh Rahul (15) completed the team's century in the 11th over with two fours and a six off Shami but was bowled by Zeeshan in the next over, taking the team's score to 115 for three wickets.

Porel and Stubbs then took the responsibility. Porel hit a six off Zeeshan while Stubbs also hit two fours off Mulder. Porel gave Delhi the win with a six off Mulder.

Earlier, Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bat first but Sunrisers lost the wickets of openers Head and Abhishek Sharma (01) and Ishan Kishan (02) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (00) in the fifth over for just 37 runs.

Head started with two consecutive fours in Starc's first over but Abhishek was run out in the same over. In Starc's next over, Ishan got caught by Stubbs on the boundary while one ball later Nitish also got caught by Delhi captain Akshar Patel.

Starc gave the fourth blow to Sunrisers by getting Head caught by wicketkeeper Rahul. As soon as Klaasen came, he showed his attitude by hitting sixes and fours on consecutive balls of Starc. Sunrisers scored 58 runs for four wickets in the power play.

Aniket also hit a four and a six on consecutive balls of Vipraj Nigam and then hit two consecutive sixes on Akshar. Klaasen took the team's score past 100 runs with a six on Kuldeep in the 10th over. Klaasen, however, returned to the pavilion in the next over when Vipraj took a brilliant catch of him on Mohit Sharma's ball. He hit two sixes and two fours in his 19-ball innings.

Abhinav Manohar also became Kuldeep's victim after scoring four runs, taking Sunrisers' score to 119 runs for six wickets.

Aniket completed his half-century in 34 balls with a run off Kuldeep's ball but was caught by Jack Fraser McGurk off Cummins (02) on the next ball. Aniket hit a four and two sixes off consecutive balls in Akshar's next over but was caught by McGurk off Kuldeep's ball.

Stark ended the Sunrisers innings by sending Harshal Patel (05) and Wiaan Mulder (09) to the pavilion in the 19th over.
