On Tuesday, terrorists targeted tourists in Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir (Pahalgam terror attack). So far 28 people have been killed in this attack, most of whom are tourists. It is being told that the dead include two foreigners and two locals. This is the deadliest terrorist attack in the valley after the 2019 Pulwama attack.
The Chief Minister of this Union Territory, Omar Abdullah, called it the biggest attack on civilians in recent years. The army has started searching for terrorists. Helpline numbers have been issued to help the people. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to the dead.
Officials said that the terrorist attack on the tourists took place around 3 pm in the Besaran Valley, which is surrounded by long, lush green meadows. It is also called 'Mini Switzerland'. Eyewitnesses said that armed terrorists descended from the mountain in the Besaran Valley and started firing indiscriminately at tourists on horseback, food joints and picnickers.
The terrorists were dressed like soldiers and police. Tourists as well as locals were injured in the attack. Some horses have also been shot. People said that the number of terrorists was five. As soon as the news spread, The Resistance Front (TRF), a front organization of Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack. TRF has also written in its one-page message that non-locals are being settled in Jammu and Kashmir. Similar violence will be carried out against outsiders who try to settle here illegally.
