Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shubhendu Adhikari on Saturday claimed that the murder of a veteran Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader in Malda district is part of a deep conspiracy. Adhikari demanded a probe into the matter by a central agency under court supervision.

Speaking to the media, Adhikari, leader of opposition in the state assembly, said that he knew Dulal Sarkar, TMC councilor of Malda English Bazar Municipality, for years, who was allegedly murdered.

He said, Dulal Sarkar has been brutally murdered in broad daylight, it should be investigated by a central agency under court supervision. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has directed the police to arrest all those behind the incident. But I think the police will not be able to reveal the conspiracy. I want Dulal Sarkar's widow to request a court-monitored investigation by the central agency.

'Law and order is deteriorating in the state'

Suvendu Adhikari is one of the main opposition leaders of Chief Minister Banerjee and her party. He left TMC and joined BJP in 2020 before the assembly elections. Since then he has been constantly attacking the ruling party and the government. On the case of Dulal, he said that this incident is proof of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

On this matter, West Bengal BJP chief and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said, he should criticize himself. You are the Police Minister. His councilor was shot dead, he should not remain in this post. What were you (Chief Minister) doing? What was your intelligence doing?

Police investigating, do not do politics: Kunal Ghosh

Meanwhile, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, as per the instructions of the Chief Minister, the police is investigating the murder case thoroughly and arresting the accused. He said, politics should not be done on this matter, because the police is doing its job.
