Shock to CM Arvind Kejriwal from the court
Petition for doctor's consultation on insulin and VC rejected
New Delihi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail, got a shock from the court on Monday. Rouse Avenue Court has rejected the plea of Delhi CM for regular meeting with the doctor and providing insulin through video conferencing.
The court directed AIIMS to constitute a medical board to examine Arvind Kejriwal. The AIIMS panel will decide whether AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal should be given insulin or not.
The court gave this instruction
The Court directed that requisite medical treatment should be provided and in case of any special consultation required, the jail authorities would appoint a medical board constituted by the AIIMS Director which would include an endocrinologist and a diabetologist.
The court said that the medical board will also decide on a prescribed diet and an exercise plan that should be followed. Special judge for CBI and ED cases Kaveri Baweja has given this decision.
'Necessary medical facilities should be provided
The court said in its order that right now Kejriwal will not be allowed to consult his doctor. It will be the responsibility of Tihar Jail Authority to provide necessary medical facilities to Arvind Kejriwal inside the jail. Their health should be taken full care of. Whenever necessary, the Medical Board can personally meet Arvind Kejriwal in jail and examine him.
‘Home cooked food will continue to be available’
The court said that for now, Kejriwal will continue to get home-cooked food, but this food will be as per the diet chart of his private doctor and the order given on April 1. Later, their food should be as per the diet plan suggested by the medical board.
‘If Kejriwal does not follow this then tell the court’
The jail authority will ensure that the food provided to Kejriwal is as per the advice of doctors. If Kejriwal does not follow this then the jail authority will immediately bring it to the notice of the court. The medical board of AIIMS will submit its report to the court as soon as possible. In the report, the board will also give its opinion on whether Kejriwal needs insulin right now or not.
The court said that if Kejriwal needs a specialist in future regarding his health, then the jail authority will take a decision on it after consulting the medical board. Tihar Jail Authority will send Arvind Kejriwal's report to the court at regular intervals every fifteen days.
Delhi CM had made this demand from the court
Arvind Kejriwal had demanded in his petition that he should be allowed to meet the doctor regularly for 15 minutes in the presence of his wife. Kejriwal had on Friday alleged that he was not being given insulin in jail, due to which his blood sugar level was rising “dangerously”.
Wrote a letter to Tihar Jail Superintendent
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written a letter to the Tihar Jail Superintendent claiming that he is demanding insulin daily as his sugar level increases. In a letter written to the jail superintendent on Monday, Kejriwal had alleged that the jail administration was lying under political pressure.
The Tihar administration had said in a statement on Sunday that they had arranged for a video conference of Kejriwal with senior experts of AIIMS on April 20, during which neither Kejriwal raised the issue of insulin nor the doctors gave any such advice.
Accused of plotting murder
Aam Aadmi Party has accused the Tihar administration of not giving insulin to Kejriwal, who is suffering from diabetes. The party has also accused him of conspiring to ‘murder’ him. Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the investigation into a money laundering case related to excise policy.
