Senior Haryana government IAS V Umashankar will now serve at the Center
Will play an important role in Nitin Gadkari's ministry
Chandigarh, Haryana government's experienced IAS officer and Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister V Umashankar will now serve in the central government. As an important member of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's team, he led many important projects in the last 9.5 years, including digital initiatives and the launch of the portal system. However, opposition parties had also registered protests on the streets and in the assembly regarding these portals.
V Umashankar was currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary of Haryana's Citizen Resource Information Department (CRID). His request to go on deputation to the Center was already accepted, and now he will take up his new role in the ministry of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. With this change, lobbying has intensified for the next Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister in the Haryana government.
It is worth noting that V Umashankar's wife Deepti Umashankar is also already serving on deputation in the central government. Due to Umashankar's transfer to the Centre, an important post has become vacant in the Chief Minister's Office, for which the names of several officers are being discussed to fill it.
