San Salvador, El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele on Tuesday gave an offer to US President Donald Trump that he might like very much. Bukele has told the US that if it wants, it can send its criminals to be imprisoned in El Salvador's prisons. He said that we will take convicted prisoners of America in our prisons. Bukele also made it clear that he will take money from America for this work. If Bukele's proposal to 'fix' American prisoners is implemented, the burden on US prisons will be reduced.

Let us tell you that there is no recent example where a democratic country has sent its citizens to foreign prisons. If Trump takes this step, his government may face a legal challenge in US courts. Speaking to reporters in San Salvador, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, "They have offered to keep dangerous American criminals in our custody in their prisons, including US citizens and legal residents. No country has ever made such an offer of friendship. We express our deep gratitude for this. I spoke to President Trump about this today."

'Will keep them in our prison, and will charge money'
Bukele later confirmed the offer on social media, saying that El Salvador will charge the US for this service. He wrote on Twitter, "We have offered to outsource part of our prison system to the US. The money we will take in return may seem less to the US, but it will be enough for us. This will stabilize our prison system well." Rubio said that Bukele's proposal is to put Salvadorian citizens and citizens of other countries in their prisons as well. He suggested the plan could focus on incarcerating criminals from gangs such as MS-13 and Venezuelan gangs.
