There is tremendous excitement in Northeast India regarding the FIFA World Cup 2026 final. In response to this excitement, the governments of Manipur and Meghalaya have declared a holiday for all schools, colleges, and other educational institutions in the state on Monday, July 20, so that students can enjoy the title match between Argentina and Spain.

Both states have taken this special decision in view of the final match scheduled to be played at 12:30 am on Sunday (midnight on July 20). The government says that students should have the opportunity to enjoy the biggest football match in the world.

All educational institutions in Manipur will remain closed

According to an order issued by the Education Department of Manipur, all educational institutions will be closed on July 20, on the instructions of the Governor. This includes schools affiliated to the Board of Secondary Education, Higher Secondary Education Council, CBSE, and other boards, as well as all government, aided, and private colleges, universities, and higher education institutions.

The Education Department clarified that this decision was taken to provide students with an opportunity to watch the FIFA World Cup final.

Meghalaya Government Also Announces Holiday

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma also announced a holiday for all schools and colleges in the state on Monday. He said that the people's passion for football in the state needs no introduction and that the youth should be given every opportunity to enjoy this historic match.

There is a tremendous atmosphere around the World Cup across the state. In addition to the special fan park established in Shillong, large numbers of football fans are gathering to watch live matches at the CM Fan Parks established in Jowai and Tura.

The FIFA President also praised Meghalaya

The enthusiasm for football in Meghalaya has been recognized internationally. Recently, FIFA President Gianni Infantino shared a post on social media praising the state's love for football and sports culture.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, in a video message, said that football in Meghalaya is not just a sport, but an integral part of the people's culture and lifestyle. Respecting this sentiment, the government has decided to grant special holidays to students so they can fully enjoy the 2026 World Cup final.
