Saharanpur. A meeting was convened regarding the preparations for the 100th anniversary of Kakori Train Action in the new auditorium of the Collectorate under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Manish Bansal. The District Magistrate said that on 09 August, Shaheed Smriti Yatra will be organized by volunteers and students riding cycles. All the volunteers and students will have cardboard plaques with popular slogans given by the revolutionaries on their cycles and all the volunteers will be in t-shirts of the colours of the tri-colour. DM Manish Bansal said that the event will be inaugurated by releasing 100 tri-colour balloons. The National Anthem will be played by the Police Band and records and photo exhibition based on Kakori Train Action will be displayed. The family members of freedom fighters will be honoured by the chief guest and other guests. Along with this, patriotic cultural programmes will be organised. District Magistrate Manish Bansal directed that all the concerned departments should understand the responsibilities assigned to them and ensure that all preparations are completed on time. Kakori train action is an important event in the history of Indian freedom struggle. This historic event was executed on 09 August, 1925 in Kakori of Lucknow district for the need of funds for the freedom movement being run by the revolutionaries. Angered by this incident, the British government filed a case against a total of 40 revolutionaries of Hindustan Republican Association for waging an armed war against the British Empire, looting government treasury and killing passengers, in which Shaheed Rajendra Nath Lahiri, Shaheed Ram Prasad Bismil, Shaheed Ashfaqulla Khan and Shaheed Roshan Singh were sentenced to death. 6 other revolutionaries were given punishment ranging from a minimum of four years to a maximum of Kalapani, life imprisonment. Chief Development Officer Sumit Rajesh Mahajan, Additional District Magistrate (Administration) Dr. Archana Dwivedi, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Praveen Kumar, Additional Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Yadav, all SDMs and officers of concerned departments were present in the meeting.
