Saharanpur, the mood of Jat politics of western Uttar Pradesh will be known from the counting of votes on Tuesday. After 2009, BJP and RLD had an alliance in this election. RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary, at the start of the Lok Sabha elections, hastily formed an alliance with BJP and fielded candidates on two seats, Baghpat and Bijnor. BJP worked hard to ensure victory of RLD candidates on both seats. BJP's prominent leader and District Cooperative Bank Saharanpur Chaudhary Rajpal Singh said on Monday that BJP has fielded both RLD candidates from Bijnor and Baghpat in the same way as it fielded its own candidates. He told that state BJP president Chaudhary Bhupendra Singh has been constantly taking news from him about Bijnor. Chaudhary Rajpal Singh was given the responsibility of Gurjar dominated Meerapur seat of Bijnor Lok Sabha by BJP. RLD candidate Chandan Chauhan is also an MLA from Meerapur. This is Chandan Chauhan's first Lok Sabha election. Interestingly, in 2009, Chandan Chauhan's father Sanjay Chauhan was elected as a Lok Sabha member from this Bijnor seat from the RLD-BJP alliance. Talking to this reporter today, Chandan Chauhan said that his family has always considered politics as a social service. His grandfather Chaudhary Narayan Singh has been the Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Chandan Chauhan expressed hope that the enlightened people of Bijnor will bless him with victory on Tuesday like his father. Chandan Chauhan is pitted against Congress-backed SP candidate Deepak Saini. BSP has fielded strong Jat leader Chaudhary Bijendra Singh. There is a triangular contest on this seat. Chandan Chauhan's election in-charge and BJP leader Sanjay Agarwal said today that Bijnor Lok Sabha seat is spread over three districts Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar and Meerut. Counting of two assembly constituencies Bijnor and Chandpur will be done at Bijnor district headquarters. Counting of Hastinapur assembly constituency will be done at Meerut district headquarters and counting of Purkaji and Meerapur will be done at Muzaffarnagar headquarters. In this way, Bijnor is the only parliamentary seat whose area falls in Moradabad, Meerut and Saharanpur divisions. Jayant Chaudhary, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held election rallies in favour of Chandan Chauhan. Akhilesh Yadav held a rally in favour of SP. RLD's second seat is Baghpat which has been the constituency of Chaudhary Charan Singh, Ajit Singh and Jayant Chaudhary himself. This was the first time when no member of this family was in the fray on the Baghpat seat. Jayant Chaudhary did not contest the election himself and made his ordinary worker Rajkumar Sangwan the candidate. Rajkumar Sangwan had a tough fight with SP. Tomorrow's result will tell who will win.
The results will also tell how well the RLD-BJP alliance stood the test. Apart from his two seats, Jayant Chaudhary also campaigned in all the Jat dominated seats of BJP in the West. Now only the results will tell how much impact he had on those seats. However, after this election, Jayant Chaudhary will stand with a new identity.
