Release of Rajkumar's film cancelled just before the press show
Now directly on OTT
It is rare to hear of a film being cancelled a day before its release in Hindi cinema. But, actor Rajkumar Rao's new film 'Bhool Chook Maaf', who has been struggling with flop films at the box office, will no longer be released in theaters. Its makers have decided to release the film directly on OTT next Friday. The press shows of the film were to be held today in Delhi and Mumbai after noon.
According to business sources, till a day before the release of the film 'Bhool Chook Maaf', there was no kind of atmosphere about the film either among the audience or in the trade. And, this despite the fact that the lead cast of the film Rajkumar Rao and Vamika Gabbi have toured almost half the country to promote it. Producer Dinesh Vijan's company Maddock Films, which has released two consecutive blockbuster films 'Stree 2' and 'Chhava', has made its next film 'Bhool Chook Maaf' for Amazon MGM Studios and the decision to release the film directly on OTT has also been taken by Amazon MGM Studios.
It is worth noting that before releasing any film in Indian cinemas, the producers have to pay a certain amount to the cinema owners and multiplex chain owners, only after this any film can be shown in cinemas. After this, there is also a war between the producers and distributors regarding the percentage of distribution of the ticket sales of the film. However, the reason behind not releasing the film 'Bhool Chook Maaf' in theaters is being told to be the situation created in the country after 'Operation Sindoor'.
A statement issued by the filmmakers on Thursday afternoon said, "Given the recent events and the heightened security measures across the country, Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to release their family entertainer 'Bhool Chook Maaf' directly on Prime Video on May 16. Though we were looking forward to celebrating the film with everyone in theatres, country comes first, Jai Hind."
