New Delhi. Amid the continuous heavy rainfall in the capital, Delhi, waterlogging and poor drainage systems are now causing accidents. Following heavy rains in the Deoli area, the wall of a private parking lot suddenly collapsed. More than 8 to 10 vehicles parked in the parking lot were severely damaged by the debris. It is a matter of relief that no one was killed in the accident.

According to locals, the area has long had a drainage problem. Due to the lack of adequate drainage facilities, water accumulated. Residents allege that the situation worsened after excavations were carried out in the area for road and sewerage work. The continued waterlogging weakened the wall and ultimately led to its collapse.

Eight years of parking, this is the first such accident

A local resident reported that approximately 8 to 10 vehicles were damaged in the accident. According to them, work was underway in the entire lane behind the parking lot, and the digging of the road caused rainwater to accumulate. They said they have been parking their vehicles at this location for about eight years, but have never experienced such a problem before.

Local residents have also questioned the functioning of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). They say that the lack of proper drainage and clogged sewers during the monsoon season contributed to the waterlogging. This waterlogging was the main reason for the wall collapse.

Paying a parking fee of 1,500 to 1,800 rupees

Local residents Praveen Kumar and Prashant also blamed the heavy rains, along with poor sewage and drainage systems, for the accident. They said the MCD dug up roads for sewer work, which led to waterlogging in the area.

Both said they park their cars in this private parking lot and pay a monthly fee of around 1,500 to 1,800 rupees. Despite vehicles being parked here for years, this is the first time such an incident has occurred. Locals allege that road and sewerage work was not properly maintained during the rainy season, and vehicle owners are now facing the consequences.

Delhi-NCR in distress due to three days of rain

Three days of continuous rain in Delhi-NCR have severely disrupted normal life. Many roads in the capital are submerged, forcing people to navigate through the water. Delhi has recorded approximately 127 mm of rain so far in the first week of August. This is reportedly the highest rainfall in early August since 2011.

Heavy rains have also worsened the situation in Gurugram. Roads in many areas are flooded, disrupting traffic. Heavy rain alerts have also been issued in several districts of Haryana. Waterlogging is troubling people in Rohtak and Faridabad.

The situation remained dire in Delhi's Sangam Vihar district after the rain, while roads in many parts of Noida were flooded with water. The continuous rain has put a brake on Delhi-NCR's progress and once again raised questions about the city's drainage system.
