Indian star badminton player PV Sindhu's journey ended in the quarter-finals on Friday. Sindhu lost to Paris Olympics bronze medalist Gregoria Tunjung in the women's singles category, ending India's campaign in the Denmark Open badminton tournament. 29-year-old Sindhu lost 13-21, 21-16, 9-21 in a match that lasted about an hour.

Indonesia's eighth-ranked player Tunjung completely dominated the match, although Sindhu still managed to win the second game. Now fifth seed Tunjung will face top seed South Korea's An Se Young in the semi-finals. Tunjung easily won the first game after scoring eight consecutive points. But Sindhu, who upset fourth seed China's Han Yue in the pre-quarterfinals, looked completely changed in the second game and went ahead 6-1. Her opponent levelled it at 6-6 but the Indian came back to take a 9-7 lead.

Sindhu then made it 11-10. She comfortably led 19-15 and soon won 21-16 to make the score 1-1. However, she could not keep the momentum going in the deciding game and Tunjung came back to win the match. Two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu had returned empty-handed from the Paris Games and has had a disappointing season since then.
