Star Indian badminton player PV Sindhu on Thursday avoided an upset against compatriot Ira Sharma and managed to reach the quarter-finals of the women's singles category of the Syed Modi International Super 300 badminton tournament. On the other hand, Lakshya Sen has also reached the quarter-finals in men's singles.
Two-time Olympic medalist and world number 18 Sindhu had to struggle for 49 minutes to win 21-10, 12-21, 21-15 in the second round match against 147th ranked player Ira. Sindhu has been struggling with poor form for some time and won her last title at the Singapore Open in 2022. The 29-year-old Indian will face world number 118 Dai Wang of China in the next round. Wang defeated India's Devika Sihag 19-21, 21-18, 21-11 in the second round.

In the men's category, top seed Lakshya Sen made it to the last eight with a straight game win of 21-14, 21-13 in 35 minutes against Israel's Daniil Dubovenko in the second round. Lakshya will play against compatriot Meiraba Luwang in the quarter-finals who defeated sixth seed Nhat Nguyen of Ireland 21-15 21-13. In other singles matches, India's Ayush Shetty defeated Malaysia's Hoh Justin 21-12, 21-19, while third seed Kiran George lost to Japan's Shogo Ogawa 21-19 20-22 11-21. India's second seed Priyanshu Rajawat also made it to the quarterfinals by defeating Vietnam's Le Duc Phat 21-15, 21-8.

Unnati defeated Thailand's Pornpicha

In women's singles, India's 17-year-old unseeded player Unnati Hooda caused an upset in the second round by defeating Thailand's Pornpicha Choikwong 21-18, 22-20 in 46 minutes. Second seed Malvika Bansod, however, lost 12-21, 15-21 to 17-year-old compatriot Indian Shriyanshi Valishetti. Former world number one junior player Tasnim Mir also entered the quarterfinals by defeating compatriot Anupama Upadhyaya 21-15, 13-21, 21-7.
