Preparations for Simhastha 2028: 80% of Khandwa-Omkareshwar Rail Line Work Completed
Western Railway General Manager Conducts Inspection
Sushil Vidhani | City Chief
Khandwa: Western Railway General Manager Ramashray Pandey and Ratlam Division DRM Ashwin Kumar visited Omkareshwar Railway Station to inspect the broad-gauge project. The officials assessed the progress of the construction work and gathered details from railway engineers. General Manager Ramashray Pandey stated that the Railways aims to launch rail services to Omkareshwar Railway Station before Simhastha 2028. However, he clarified that since the project is currently under inspection, it would be premature to specify exactly when the work on the Omkareshwar-Mhow section will be completed. He noted that the broad-gauge work from Khandwa to Omkareshwar Road Railway Station is finished, and trains could potentially operate on this section. Prior to the inspection, both senior officials visited the Lord Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga temple before proceeding to the railway station to review the construction activities.
Speaking to the media, he mentioned that the inspection was conducted specifically with the goal of completing the work at Omkareshwar Railway Station before Simhastha. Efforts are underway to ensure that, once the railway work on this route is finished, further connectivity is established so that citizens can benefit from rail services.
It is worth noting that the project to convert the historic Hyderabad-Jaipur meter-gauge line into broad-gauge has been ongoing for nearly two decades. Broad-gauge construction has been in progress since the meter-gauge service between Omkareshwar Road and Indore was discontinued in 2016; however, the project remains incomplete due to the construction of tunnels and major bridges in the hilly terrain of Kalakund and Choral, beyond Patalpani.
