For the implementation of this scheme, internship has been conceptualised as an arrangement between the intern and the company, in which the company provides the intern an opportunity to acquire training, experience and skills in the practical life environment of the industry and establishments, which helps in reducing the gap between the industry, establishments and the educational qualifications of the youth, which will help in increasing the employability. Under the scheme, youth between the age of 21 to 24 years, belonging to Indian nationality, who are not in full-time employment and are not in full-time education, can apply. Candidates enrolled in online or distance education programmes will be eligible to apply. Under the scheme, graduates, diploma holders, ITI, intermediate and high school pass candidates can apply till 15 April.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has identified the top 500 companies of a total of 19 sectors under the scheme on the basis of average CSR expenditure of the last three years. The intern will be provided a minimum monthly assistance of Rs. 5,000 for the entire month of internship. Based on the policies of the respective companies, the company's CSR fund will provide an amount of Rs. 500 per month to each intern, after which the Government of India will pay Rs. 4,500 to the candidate through Direct Benefit Transfer in the bank account linked to the Aadhaar of the intern. If a company wants to provide an amount more than Rs. 500 as monthly assistance, it can do so from its own funds. In addition, a one-time grant of Rs. 6,000 will be provided through Direct Benefit Transfer when the intern takes charge. The scheme is being implemented and monitored through the online portal www.pminternship.mca.gov.in developed by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Interested candidates will have to register themselves on the portal. Biodata will be prepared by the portal as per the information provided by the candidates. Candidates will have the option to select preferred sectors, functional roles, locations and other criteria. A pool of candidates will be selected for each internship opportunity through the portal itself. Companies will select candidates based on their respective selection criteria and processes and offer internships.
