Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh: Contaminated water is coming in the handpump installed in Harijan locality in Pathrehi Gram Panchayat under Beohari Vidhansabha of Shahdol district for 3 months. Sick, but not improved till date, being ignored by the administration, the villagers are demanding handpump reform.

People of Harijan Basti are constantly forced to drink dirty water from handpumps, they have given complaints from panchayat to district, but there is no one to listen. If we talk about village Pathrehi, there are 4 handpumps here, out of which three are defective and only one is operational. The villagers are forced to drink the contaminated water from which the water comes, and children and the elderly are getting sick every day.

When we wanted to talk to the executive engineer of PHE, neither his phone picked up nor that of his engineer, be it Nal Jal Yojana or Jal Jeevan Mission, all the works that have been done under it, the situation remained the same in that area. People also say that handpumps have not improved since years and when the officials are asked, they assure to take action after conducting an inquiry.
