Bhopal. The number of missing girls in Madhya Pradesh over the past five years has raised concerns. Responding to a written question in the Assembly, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that 61,112 missing cases were reported across the state between 2021 and 2025. Of these, 3,241 girls remain untraced, while in the remaining cases, police have taken action and safely recovered a large number of them.

The Chief Minister informed the House that, as per Supreme Court directives, a kidnapping case is registered whenever a minor girl goes missing, to ensure that there is no laxity in the investigation and the police can take immediate action.

Missing Cases Rise Every Year

According to data presented in the Assembly, the highest number of missing girls, 13,146, were reported in 2025. Previously, 11,907 cases were registered in 2024, 11,250 in 2023, 9,093 in 2022, and 9,407 in 2021. Statistics show that such incidents have steadily increased over the past five years.

61,498 Girls Found Safely

According to police department data presented by the government, 61,498 girls were found and safely reunited with their families during this period. This number includes cases pending from previous years. The Chief Minister stated that at the beginning of 2021, 3,627 cases were already pending, which the police also took action on.

Cases Rising in 2026

The government also reported that 6,309 new cases of missing girls have been registered in the state in the first five months of 2026 alone. Police investigations and search operations are ongoing in these cases.
