Navratri fair of Shakumbari Devi starts from nine
CCTV cameras will keep an eye on the fair

Saharanpur. The Chaitra Navratri fair of North India's famous Maa Shakumbari Devi, held every year, is going to start from April 9. The administration has completed all preparations for the management of the fair. 45 at the fair venue from security point of view
Sub-inspectors, 14 women sub-inspectors, 63 head constables, 132 constables, 50 women constables, 20 home guards, one platoon PAC will be deployed, two fire brigade vehicles will also be present. There will be provision of street lights, 10 temporary toilets, free water and medicines in the fair. The entire fair area will be monitored through CCTV cameras. A flood post will also be built one kilometer above the Devi temple.
Maa Shakumbari Devi is mentioned in Markandeya Purana, Padma Purana, Durga Saptasati and Kanakadhara source. Mentions found in religious texts show that long ago there was drought and famine in many areas due to lack of rain. Then people did penance to Goddess Jagdamba. The goddess was pleased and it rained for nine days and nights. Due to which the condition of drought was cured and by the grace of Goddess, crops, vegetables and fruits were produced in abundance on the hills and people got food, water, happiness and peace. After that people named Adishakti Durga as Maa Shakumbari. Since then devotees of Hindu religion have been worshiping the goddess. Big fairs are organized at the temple site three-four times a year. However, devotees from far-flung areas keep visiting the temple throughout the year.
