Ahmedabad, A major accident took place in Morbi district of Gujarat on Sunday evening. Here the cable bridge built on the Machhu river suddenly broke down. At least 60 people have died in this accident. Giving this information to the news agency ANI, BJP MP from Rajkot Mohanbhai Kalyanji Kundaria said, 'More than 60 bodies have been recovered, most of them children, women and elderly people. The rest have been rescued. Rescue operation of NDRF is going on. We are taking this matter very seriously, it is very sad.

This cable bridge built on the Machu river was quite old. It was included in the heritage bridge. It was reopened after Diwali after repairs on the Gujarati New Year itself. According to the information, the bridge was closed for about 7 months for repairs. It was opened only two days ago. Around 400 people were present on this bridge at the time of the accident, out of which 100 people fell into the river.

PM Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund to the families of those who lost their lives in this accident, while 50 thousand will be given to the injured. On the other hand, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Patel has announced an assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased, while Rs 50,000 for the injured.

Earlier, Gujarat's Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi had confirmed the death of only 7 people in this accident. Talking to the media, he said, 'Very sad unfortunate incident has happened. At the time when the bridge broke, around 150 people were on the bridge. Within just 15 minutes of this incident, the entire system of the city was on the spot.

He said that the rescue work was done very fast. The first injured was rushed to the hospital in just 18 minutes. He said, 'When such an incident happens, the first task of the government is to rescue the people. So far 70 people have been taken to the hospital. We have been successful in saving most of the people. So far 7 deaths have been confirmed.
