Young man died, Dial 112 driver and Home Guard jawan suspended
Kaimur, Bihar's Kaimur district has come under fire where police collected money from a youth injured by snake bite by making him an accused in a liquor case instead of taking him to hospital. After the death of the victim, the driver of Dial 112 and Home Guard jawan posted at Bhagwanpur police station have been suspended. The National Human Rights Commission has also taken cognizance of the matter and issued a notice to Bihar's DGP. Kaimur SP Lalit Mohan Sharma ordered to register an FIR against both of them.
SP has suspended Dial 112 driver Krishna Kumar Paswan and written a letter to the Police Headquarters in Patna to relieve him from service. While Home Guard jawan Mohammad Shoaib has been suspended and a letter has been written to the District Magistrate for his release from service. It has been told that Ramlakhan Prasad, son of Shivmurat Bind, resident of Nimiyatand of Chainpur police station area of the district, had gone to irrigate his field at night in Bhagwanpur police station area last week. He slept there. During this time, he was bitten by a snake. At the same time, he saw a Dial 112 van. He stopped the van and said that he has been bitten by a snake. But, the policemen made him sit in the van and instead of taking him to the hospital for treatment, they took Rs 700 from him and left him, calling him a drunkard.
His brother Yogendra Bind later complained about this to the SP. The SP took immediate action and ordered SDPO Shivshankar Kumar to investigate and submit a report. The Home Guard jawan and the driver were found guilty in the SDPO's investigation. The SP suspended the driver and the Home Guard jawan on the SDPO's investigation report. The SP said that on Tuesday, Ram Lakhan Prasad's brother Yogendra Bind, who was injured by snakebite, and others came to me and filed an application against the Home Guard jawan and the driver.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said on Tuesday that in Kaimur district, some policemen took a person suffering from snakebite into custody and did not allow him to go to the hospital, due to which he died. The policemen had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2000 from him. He called his brother and arranged for Rs 700 and then left. Due to delay in treatment, he died. This is a violation of human rights.
