Mithila painting's Shilpguru Padmashree Godavari Dutt passes away
Funeral will be done with state honors

Famous painter and Padmashree awardee Godavari Dutt, who was famous for Mithila painting, passed away. She breathed her last at 12:15 pm on Wednesday in Ranty village at the age of 93. She was in coma for a week. There is a wave of mourning in the whole of Bihar due to the death of the famous artist. The body will be cremated with state honors. She played a big role in getting recognition for Madhubani painting.
It is said that the doctor of Madhubani Medical Center had informed the family about the kidney failure and referred the patient to a higher center. After going into coma, the family brought her home. Let us tell you that Padmashree Godavari Dutt gave recognition to Madhubani painting art in the country and abroad.
She often used to say that whatever I am today, it is because of this art. The mortal remains of Godavari Dutt, a famous painter for Mithila painting and Padma Shri awardee, have been kept in the courtyard of his residence in Ranty village of Rajnagar block of Madhubani. People have reached his house for the last darshan of the body. His last rites will be performed with state honours.
Let us tell you that Godavari Dutt was awarded Shilp Guru Samman in 2006, and an honorary degree of D.Litt by Darbhanga University on 12 March 2019. On 16 March 2019, he was honoured with Padma Shri award by the President of India, Ramnath Kovind. A son, a retired bank manager, four granddaughters and a granddaughter lived with him in the house. The news of Godavari Dutt's death sent a wave of mourning across Bihar. People are reaching his house for the last darshan.
