Dewas, Five laborers have been confirmed dead so far following a massive explosion at a firecracker factory located in the Tonkkala area of ​​Dewas district. More than 15 people were injured in the incident, several of whom have sustained severe burns. Reports have also emerged regarding the disappearance of several women. Expressing his condolences over the incident, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced financial assistance of ₹4 lakh each for the families of the deceased. Directives were also issued to provide free medical treatment to the injured. Additionally, Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda, the Home Secretary, and other senior officials were dispatched to the site. Preliminary investigations have revealed several instances of gross negligence. According to locals and initial reports, gunpowder was being stored in the open within the factory premises, and the quantity found exceeded the permissible limits. Safety standards were also reportedly not being adhered to. Suspicions have also been raised that firecrackers were being manufactured illegally at the facility. Villagers claim that complaints had been lodged in the past, but no action was taken. Anil Malviya has been identified as the owner of the factory. Locals have alleged that the factory enjoyed political patronage; the police have taken the factory owner into custody and have commenced interrogation. Regarding the current situation, relief and rescue operations are ongoing at the site. The police, the district administration, and the fire department are actively engaged in clearing the debris and conducting investigations. An atmosphere of panic and outrage prevails in the surrounding area, as the explosion was so powerful that it caused nearby houses to shake. The administration is now investigating the factory's licensing status, safety protocols, and the actual causes behind the explosion.
