Major action by the administration in the interest of farmers
Licenses of 12 pesticide shops revoked, notices issued to 21
Damoh, Damoh: In order to provide quality pesticides to farmers and protect agricultural interests, the district administration launched a comprehensive inspection campaign against pesticide selling establishments across the district. On the instructions of Collector Pratap Narayan Yadav, 46 pesticide shops were inspected. Following the discovery of several serious irregularities, the licenses of 12 shops were immediately revoked, while show-cause notices were issued to 21 shop owners.
During the inspection, many establishments were found to be lacking in principal certificates, necessary safety equipment, arrangements for safe storage of pesticides, and precautionary instructions. Furthermore, the stock registers of many shops were found to be incomplete. Action was taken against the establishments for not adhering to government regulations and standards.
Collector Pratap Narayan Yadav stated that farmers often purchase pesticides from unauthorized individuals instead of authorized sellers, increasing the risk of using the wrong product or using improper dosages. This can have adverse effects on the crops as well as the health of farmers.
He said that farmers have to use pesticides to protect their crops after sowing. Therefore, it is the administration's priority to ensure that farmers have access to quality pesticides at reasonable prices only through authorized sellers. To this end, strict action is being taken against those violating the rules by conducting regular inspections in the district.
