LSG vs GT Highlights: Lucknow defeated Gujarat Titans by six wickets
Puran-Markram hit half-centuries
Lucknow. On the strength of strong fifties by Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram, who are playing fearlessly in this season's IPL, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by 6 wickets. This is Lucknow's fourth win in the 6 matches played so far in the tournament, while this is Gujarat's second defeat in the same number of matches. Both the teams are at the second and third positions in the points table.
Host Lucknow won the toss and decided to bowl first in this match played at home today. But Gujarat captain Shubman Gill (60) and Sai Sudarshan (56) stunned Lucknow with their explosive start. Both the batsmen had taken the team's score to 120 by 12 overs, while the team had not suffered any setback yet. Here, in the beginning of the 13th over of the innings, Avesh Khan gave the team success by dismissing Shubman Gill, and Lucknow made it a way for their comeback.
In the very next over, Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Sai Sudarshan and Washington Sundar (2), who were set. From here, Gujarat's innings, which was looking to go close to 220 at one time, faltered. Experienced batsman Jos Buttler (16) also proved to be lackluster and Lucknow's bowlers put pressure on Gujarat in the slog overs and stopped them at 180 runs.
In response to 181 runs, Lucknow was comfortably kept on the winning track by the quick innings of Aiden Markram (58) and Nicholas Pooran. In the end, it won by six wickets with three balls to spare. This is the third consecutive win of the Lucknow team. In the absence of Mitchell Marsh, captain Rishabh Pant took the responsibility of opening but he could score only 21 runs in 18 balls. But he supported Markram in the powerplay, due to which the team added 61 runs in the powerplay without losing any wicket.
After this, Nicholas Pooran and Markram added 58 runs for the second wicket. Ayush Badoni (28*) held one end and gave the team victory by hitting a six in the last over.
