Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections: Voting in 3 phases
More than 63 percent voting, now waiting for the result
Voting for Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections has been completed in 3 phases. People are now waiting for October 8, the day when the results will come. The people of Jammu and Kashmir participated enthusiastically in the assembly elections being held after 10 years. If compared to the Lok Sabha elections, there has been more voting in this election. The elections have been conducted peacefully. This election was special in many ways because for the first time after the removal of Article 370, elections were held in the state. For the first time, West Pakistani refugees and members of the Valmiki community cast their votes. In this assembly election, out of the 90 seats, the highest voting was recorded in Inderwal Assembly at 82.16 percent.
After the completion of all three phases, the voting percentage was 63.45. Voting was held in 24 constituencies on September 18 for the first phase, in which 61.38 percent voting took place, for the second phase on September 25 it was 57.31 percent for 26 constituencies and for the last third phase the voting percentage is 69.65% in 40 seats. After the completion of all three phases, the voting percentage was 63.45, which is more than the voting recorded in the recent Lok Sabha elections in the Union Territory. The voting percentage may increase now.
Vote percentage increased in both divisions
Vote percentage has increased in both divisions of the state in these elections. The total voting percentage in the assembly elections in the Kashmir division was 55.20 percent, while in this year's Lok Sabha elections it was 47.27 percent. However, this is less than the assembly elections of 2014 and 2008. Srinagar, Pulwama, Shopian and Baramulla districts of the valley have set a new record of voting in this assembly election, which is the best in the last three decades.
Similarly, during the three phases of assembly elections, the voting percentage of Jammu division was recorded at 72.59, which is higher than 69.63 percent recorded in the Lok Sabha elections this year and 71.26 percent recorded in the 2008 assembly elections, but lower than the 2014 assembly elections. In Jammu division, Kishtwar district recorded the highest voting percentage of 80.20 percent, followed by Udhampur at 75.87 percent, Samba at 75.22 percent and Reasi at 74.68 percent.
