India has taken a step forward to host the 2036 Olympics and Paralympics. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has sent a letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in this regard. According to sources in the Union Sports Ministry, the IOA officially expressed its desire to host the Olympics in the future to the IOC and submitted the relevant letter of intent. According to a source in the Sports Ministry, the letter was submitted on October 1.

India has long expressed its desire to host the 2036 Olympics. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has also expressed his opinion on this on many occasions and expressed his intentions. However, now India has taken big steps in this direction.

What did PM Modi say on hosting the Olympics

PM Modi went on a US tour in September. There he said in a program organized at the Indoor Stadium in New York, 'The Paris Olympics have ended just a few days ago. America is the host of the next Olympics. Very soon you will see the Olympics in India too. We are making every effort to host the 2036 Olympics.' Earlier, PM Modi, while addressing the nation from the Red Fort on the occasion of Independence Day, had said a big thing on hosting the Olympics 2036. He had said that India has started the process to host the Olympics 2036. Giving information, the PM had told that the IOA has started talks with the IOC's Future Host Commission (FHC) to bring this event to India.

The source said, 'This important occasion can bring substantial benefits by promoting economic development, social progress and youth empowerment across the country.' The decision on the host will not be taken before the IOC elections next year. India will also have to face a tough challenge from many other countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey in the race to host who are presenting themselves as strong contenders to host this sports mega event.

India's top sports administrators, including IOA President PT Usha, were at the Paris Olympics this year to lobby for the country. It has also been learned that if India gets the hosting, it will insist on the inclusion of indigenous sports like yoga, kho-kho and kabaddi. The Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) has also presented a detailed report to the new Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on the measures required to get the Olympic hosting. In this report, the MOC has identified six sports which will be included in the Olympics if India gets the hosting. These sports include yoga, kho-kho, kabaddi, chess, T20 cricket and squash.

India won six medals in Paris

India sent a team of 117 players to Paris for the Paris Olympics this year, where Indian athletes won a total of six medals. This includes one silver and five bronze. At the same time, Indian athletes also performed historically in the Paris Paralympics and broke the record of Tokyo by winning 29 medals. Three years ago, India won 19 medals. This time the country won its highest number of medals in the history of para sports. These include seven gold, nine silver and 13 bronze.
