Adopting a firm stance regarding the attacks on commercial vessels near the Oman coast and the deaths of Indian nationals, India has once again summoned a senior diplomat from the US Embassy, ​​Jason Meeks, to the Ministry of External Affairs. This marks the second time in recent days that India has sought a formal response from the US mission on this issue.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, a ship carrying Indian crew members was targeted in the latest attack near the Oman coast. Earlier, the deaths of three Indian sailors—who were initially reported missing—had been confirmed following a separate attack.

Crucial 40-Minute Meeting

Nagaraj Naidu, Additional Secretary (Americas) at the Ministry of External Affairs, summoned US Chargé d'Affaires Jason Meeks to convey India's serious concern and register a strong protest. Sources indicate that the discussion between the two sides lasted approximately 40 minutes.

During the meeting, India expressed deep concern regarding the attacks on commercial vessels, the safety of Indian nationals, and the deaths of the three Indian sailors. It is reported that the US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, is currently out of the capital; consequently, Jason Meeks represented the US side.

Growing Concern Over Attacks on Ships with Indian Crew

India has expressed particular concern over incidents affecting commercial vessels carrying Indian sailors. These events have raised serious questions regarding the security of international maritime routes and the safety of Indian citizens.

According to reports, a Palau-flagged tanker was attacked near the port of Sohar in Oman on Wednesday. It was reported that a fire broke out in the ship's engine room following the attack, resulting in the deaths of three Indian sailors.

Indian Ship Targeted Previously as Well

Prior to this incident, another ship with an Indian crew had also been attacked on Monday. There were 24 Indian sailors on board the vessel, all of whom were subsequently rescued safely.

The latest incident involves the Guinea-Bissau-flagged vessel, MT Jalveer. According to reports, the ship's engine room was targeted amidst allegations of violating sanctions imposed on Iran. This attack has further heightened international concerns regarding maritime security.
