India created history in badminton
Chirag-Satwik entered the quarterfinals without playing
India's team of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Reddy has created history in badminton. This team of Chirag-Satwik has reached the quarterfinals of the men's doubles event of Paris Olympics 2024 without playing its last match. Actually, the pair of Chirag-Satwik was placed in Group C, which also included the team of Mark Lamsfab and Marvin Seidel of Germany. Unfortunately, due to Lamsfab's injury, the German team has been eliminated from the Paris Olympics. His exit had hurt the chances of the Indian team reaching the quarterfinals.
The good news for India is that the rules of the Badminton World Federation have proved to be a profitable deal for India. The rule says that after the elimination of Mark Lamsfab and Marvin Seidel, any match that has been played or is going to be played in the group stage will not be recognized. That means now only 3 teams are left in Group C. India and Indonesian team have won one match each, while France's Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar have been eliminated from the tournament after losing both their matches. Therefore, India and Indonesia have qualified for the quarterfinals.
The big match will be held on 30th July
India and Indonesia will face each other to get the first place in Group C. Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Reddy are the world's number five team in men's doubles, while they will face Fajar Alfian and Mohammad Rian Adrianto on 30th July, who are the world's number four team. The two top-5 teams of the world will be facing each other and the winner of this match will decide who will be on top of Group C. In the last three encounters, Chirag-Satwik have been victorious against this Indonesian pair every time.
