Gas leak kills 11 in Ludhiana
NDRF took over the front, investigation with drone too
Ludhiana, Eleven people, including two children, died while 12 were hospitalized after inhaling poisonous gas in the densely populated Gyaspura area of Punjab's Ludhiana district on Sunday. The condition of four of them remains critical. The gas leakage continued till late evening after the accident in the residential area located at 33 Foota Road, Ludhiana. DC Surabhi Malik said that investigation has revealed that industrial chemical was put in the sewerage line. This generated hydrogen sulphide gas, which became the cause of the accident. Late in the evening, the police have registered a case of culpable homicide against the unknown.
After the incident, the affected area was evacuated by NDRF teams. An area of 300 meters has been sealed. NDRF teams were engaged in the rescue work till late evening. The poisonous gas leaked from the sewerage line built near Goyal Kirana located in the area. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the accident. At the same time, the government has announced to give Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the affected.
The incident came to light at 7 am on Sunday when some people who had come to buy milk at Goyal Kirana Store started fainting. On seeing it, the shopkeeper Sourav Goyal started having difficulty in breathing. After this there was noise, his brother Gaurav Goyal and other family members also came down. As everyone came down, they fainted.
Three members of Goyal's family died in the accident. At the same time, the entire family of Dr. Kavilash, who lived in front of the shop, died. The family consisted of Kavilash, his wife and three children. One has been identified as Amit Gupta. Amit Goyal is said to be close to the family. All the victims were originally from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and were staying in Ludhiana for work. Those who are under treatment in the hospital are still unconscious and not in a condition to talk. Two policemen who rushed to the rescue also fainted. The NDRF team carried out rescue work and evacuated the people. DGP Gaurav Yadav also visited the affected area. Police searched the entire area with the help of drones. Especially the rooftops were monitored. Actually, there was apprehension that some affected person was not in the roof.

The police staff reached there as soon as the information about people falling due to gas rising. The police immediately evacuated the area and advised those who were in front to cover their faces. The police sealed the entire area and no common man was allowed to go further. After this, the NDRF team reached the spot and started the investigation.
