Udaipur, Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Girija Vyas died in a hospital in Ahmedabad on Thursday. She was 79 years old. Family sources gave this information. According to family members, she was severely burnt while performing aarti at her home in Udaipur city of Rajasthan on March 31 this year. After this Vyas was immediately taken to a private hospital in Udaipur, where she was given first aid and later she was referred to Ahmedabad for further treatment.

The dupatta caught fire from the diya
Her brother Gopal Sharma said that she died in a hospital in Ahmedabad on Thursday evening and her last rites will be performed in Udaipur on Friday. According to family members, Vyas was performing Gangaur Puja at home. She was performing aarti, during which her dupatta caught fire from the diya burning below and family members took her to the hospital.

Due to nearly 90% burns, her condition kept deteriorating and finally she breathed her last at Zydus Hospital in Ahmedabad. According to family members, her body is being brought to Udaipur, where arrangements are being made for her last rites and last rites.

Girija Vyas was also the chairperson of the National Commission for Women

Girija Vyas was an important leader of the Congress. She served as a minister in both the state and central governments. She was also the state Congress chief and the chairperson of the National Commission for Women. The Congress party has condoled the death of Vyas. The party posted a picture of Vyas on its social media handle X and wrote, "The death of senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Dr. Girija Vyas ji is an irreparable loss in Indian politics. She has made an unprecedented contribution in the field of education and social service along with the politics of the country. I pray to God to give place to the departed soul in his lotus feet and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this pain.''

Ashok Gehlot expressed grief

Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot paid tribute to him by sharing an emotional message on X and called it an "irreparable loss". Ashok Gehlot wrote, ''The demise of former Union Minister and former Congress State President Dr. Girija Vyas is an irreparable loss for all of us. Dr. Girija Vyas had made a big contribution in the field of education, politics and social service. His untimely demise by becoming a victim of such an accident is a big shock for all of us. I pray to God to give place to his soul in his lotus feet.''
