Former ICAR chief and Padma Shri Subanna Ayyappan found dead in Cauvery river

Bangalore, Agency The body of former Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Padma Shri awardee Subanna Ayyappan has been recovered from the Cauvery river. According to the police, people saw Ayyappan's body floating in the Cauvery river near Srirangapatna. Police say that the 70-year-old officer's two-wheeler was found parked on the banks of the river and it is suspected that he jumped into the river. However, the real cause of death will be known only after investigation. Ayyappan was an agricultural and fisheries scientist and lived in Vishwas Nagar Industrial Area of Mysore.
His family had lodged a missing report at Vidyaranyapuram police station in Mysore, stating that he was missing since May 7. Police said that he used to meditate often at the Sai Baba Ashram located on the banks of the Cauvery river in Srirangapatna. He played an important role in India's Blue Revolution. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
