Fire Breaks Out at Lucknow Coaching Center
15 Dead and Many Injured in the Incident
Lucknow. A fire broke out at a private coaching center in Sector D of Aliganj on Monday afternoon. The flames quickly intensified. Locals alerted the fire department. Fire tenders arrived at the scene and began efforts to extinguish the blaze. Fifteen people have died, and many others have suffered burns in the incident.
The cause of the fire is not yet clear. Locals report that some people are trapped inside; however, no official statement regarding the incident has been issued so far.
Many students saved their lives by jumping from the building. Some have sustained serious injuries. The building housed a pet shop and a gaming zone on the first two floors, while the coaching center and a library were located on the third floor.
It is reported that many people were inside the building when the fire started around 3 PM. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, ACS (Home) Sanjay Prasad, DGP Rajiv Krishna, the District Magistrate (DM), and other police officials are on-site, overseeing rescue and relief operations. Efforts are underway to evacuate students by breaking down a rear wall.
CM Yogi Issues Instructions for Relief and Rescue Operations
The Chief Minister directed officials to immediately reach the site, accelerate relief and rescue operations, and ensure proper medical treatment for the injured. Instructions have also been issued to the administration to maintain vigilance at all levels.
Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak Reaches the Scene
Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak stated, "We have learned that there is currently no one on the topmost floor. Fire brigade personnel have broken a wall on the first floor to gain entry. There is heavy smoke inside. Every room is being searched. Our priority is to safely evacuate all the students. The administration and medical teams have been placed on high alert."
He added, "Ambulances are present at the scene, and we have summoned doctors as well. Arrangements have been made to provide immediate first aid on-site to students who may require it." Locals reported students jumping from the building
Eyewitnesses at the scene stated that many children were inside when the incident occurred. As the fire broke out, they began jumping down. Several photos and videos related to the incident have also circulated on social media.
Several officials, including District Magistrate (DM) Vishakh and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) North Twinkle Jain, have arrived at the site. Personnel are engaged in rescue operations using about a dozen fire tenders and a hydraulic platform. The number of casualties remains unclear at this stage.
Nearby buildings evacuated
As a precautionary measure, the police have evacuated nearby buildings. Traffic has also been diverted to facilitate the rescue operation. The cause of the fire is not yet known. A large number of police, administrative, and fire department personnel have reached the scene.
CM Yogi returning to Lucknow from Aligarh
Following the fire incident in Lucknow, the Chief Minister is returning to the city from Aligarh. The CM stated, "I had intended to stay in Aligarh, but I have just received information about a fire incident in Lucknow. Children have been caught in it. I must return now. I am concerned about them and extend my condolences to the families."
He added, "I have ordered the Principal Secretary (Home) to conduct an inquiry. I will return soon; that matter is important to me. I need to leave here quickly as the incident is significant. I have ordered an investigation into the Lucknow incident." He also postponed the review meeting regarding development works, conducting a review only for the Public Works Department.
