Shajapur. Damodar Verma, a farmer of village Jethra in the district, has set an inspirational example in his village. By installing a biogas plant with the help of the Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Department, he not only changed the lifestyle of his family, but also took a big step towards self-reliance by adopting environmentally friendly and economical energy sources. Today he has become an inspiration for the farmers of the entire village. Verma told that his family, which has 12-13 members, earlier depended on LPG gas cylinder or traditional stove for cooking. It was not only expensive but also very inconvenient and the expense of gas cylinder every month was burdening their financial condition, while collecting wood for the stove and lighting them required time and effort. Along with this, burning wood produced smoke, which was also having a bad effect on the health of the family members. Cooking food every day for the family was a big challenge. During this time, Damodar Verma, inspired by the information given by the Department of Farmers Welfare and Agriculture, decided to install a biogas plant. The total cost of setting up this plant was Rs 28,000, but he got financial help by getting a grant of Rs 14,150 from the government. This financial support made it even easier for him to install a biogas plant. After the plant was installed, his house became completely free from the need for gas cylinders.
Change in life due to biogas
As soon as the biogas plant started, kitchen work in Verma's house became simple and cheap. Now the gas produced from this plant is used to cook food for the whole family, due to which where earlier there was a worry about gas cylinder and wood for the stove every month, now this expense has completely ended. Verma's family is now enjoying clean and cheap energy, which has increased comfort and satisfaction in their life.
Double benefit of biogas plant
The slurry from the biogas plant, which is organic waste, brought another important benefit to Verma. They are using this slurry as organic manure in their fields, which is increasing the fertility of the soil. This is not only making their crops more productive, but also reducing their dependence on chemical fertilizers. This is reducing the cost of farming and improving the yield, which is also positively affecting their income.
