A former West Bengal Police officer has been arrested. The case is related to a fake passport racket. A retired sub-inspector of Kolkata Police has been arrested for approving a passport application without proper verification. The accused police officer was produced in Alipore Court on Saturday. The court sent him to police custody till January 18. Nine people have been arrested so far after the fake passport racket was busted.

Many passports issued on the basis of fake documents

In the case of Abdul Hui's arrest, the police officer said, he had played an important role in issuing many passports on the basis of fake documents when he was posted in the Security Control Organization (SCO). This organization investigates the applications received from the Regional Passport Office.

Retirement in 2023, sent to custody by the court after being caught

The accused Abdul Hui retired in October 2023. He was arrested from his residence in Ashok Nagar area of ​​​​North 2 Parganas district in the early hours of Saturday. Regarding the action, the officer said, after the arrest, he was produced in the local court, from where he was sent to police custody. His role in issuing several passports on the basis of fake documents in the last few years is being investigated.

Detective department is investigating, case registered three months ago

According to preliminary investigation, the accused former police officer Hui approved more than 50 passport applications. All were later found to be fake.

Rs 25 thousand bribe in exchange for passport application

Sources quoted investigating officers as saying that the accused Abdul Hui used to take Rs 25 thousand for verification of an application based on fake documents. The senior officer said that many more important clues are expected to be found during the investigation.

The BJP has accused the administration of ignoring the spread of fake passport racket in this Trinamool Congress ruled state. The BJP alleges that such acts have the support of a section of the police. On the other hand, the TMC accused the Center of ignoring infiltration from across the border. The Trinamool Congress praised the role of the West Bengal Police in detecting the people involved in this racket.
