Damoh, Eye donation fortnight is being celebrated in the state, with this objective a rally was taken out from the district hospital to make people aware about eye donation. The rally was flagged off by Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Mukesh Jain and Civil Surgeon Dr. Rakesh Rai.

Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Mukesh Jain said that Eye fortnight is being celebrated in the entire state, people are being appealed to donate eyes after death, so that we can provide light to those who cannot see.
He told that people have a misconception that the entire eye is taken out in eye donation, it is not so, in eye donation, only the black transparent layer on the eyelids, above the pupil is taken, it is a transparent curtain, through which we can see through, sometimes when there is an injury, a whiteness appears which hinders the vision, we replace it. There is nothing like this that the entire eye is taken out, only the transparent part is taken out. This is a very virtuous act, if someone can get light after our death, then what can be a more virtuous act than this.

CMHO Dr. Jain urged people to donate blood while alive, people have a misconception about blood donation that a lot of blood is taken, only 175 ml of blood is taken, which is useful for someone really in need. He said that if needed, a healthy person can donate blood anytime, can do it anytime in 3 months. Civil Surgeon Dr. Rakesh Rai said that Eye Donation Fortnight is going on which will run from 25th August to 8th September. The general public is being made aware that citizens should come forward and donate their eyes to the identified persons who have lost their vision. He said that eye donation can be done within 6 hours after death. He urged everyone to cooperate in this and work should be done in public interest.
Eye Donation Fortnight till 08th September
Civil Surgeon cum Chief Hospital Superintendent said that Eye Donation Fortnight will be celebrated till 08th September. Under which the residents of the district are being requested to donate eyes. He said that people of all ages can donate eyes, eyes should be donated and sent to the eye bank within 06 hours after death so that it can be transplanted on time, eye donation is a process of just 15 minutes.
He said that people infected with AIDS, hepatitis and rabies, septicemia, blood cancer, cholera and meningitis cannot donate eyes. BP People suffering from diseases like asthma and diabetes can donate eyes. Families can give consent for eye donation. He said that blood donation should be done while alive and eye donation should be done after death.
