Education department came on back foot after BJP MLA caught irregularities in tender! Tender issued for construction of class rooms in government schools 'canceled'

Sikrahna (East Champaran), irregularities were caught in the tender issued by the Education Department in East Champaran. In this regard, the MLA of the ruling party had raised questions on the publication of the tender and had also written a letter regarding cancellation. Education department came on back foot after BJP MLA Pawan Jaiswal wrote a letter to the District Education Officer, East Champaran to cancel the tender. Today on 14th June, the tender has been cancelled. In the letter of DEO Motihari, it has been said that the tender is cancelled due to collective decision of the tender execution committee and unavoidable reason. Actually, additional rooms are to be constructed in secondary, higher secondary schools under the Vidyalaya Vikas Yojana in various blocks of East Champaran. For this work, a tender was issued by the Education Department for construction of classrooms in 102 schools of the district. District Education Officer Motihari had said that short term tender has been invited for work in schools. Only those contractors can participate in the tender who are listed to do state level infrastructure work. However, this tender of the Education Department got stuck in a technical glitch. This tender has been canceled after the irregularity was proved. After receiving the complaint, BJP MLA from Dhaka Pawan Jaiswal had written a letter to the District Education Officer East Champaran in this regard. In which it was said that tender no.-1 year 2024/25 is not as per the rules. In such a situation, the published short term tender invitation notice should be canceled. It was said in the letter that the short term limited tender invitation notice number one issued by the District Education Officer East Champaran which has been published is not as per the rules. According to the notification issued by the Road Construction Department and the Finance Department, in any tender whose natural amount is below 10 lakhs, the BOQ amount has to be kept at Rs.1250. Whereas in the issued information, the BOQ amount has been kept at Rs.2500, which is against the rules. Besides, there is a financial burden on the unemployed contractors. In such a situation, the tender published against the rules should be postponed and a revised tender should be published. After questions were raised on the tender issued by the District Education Officer, Motihari, the tender had to be cancelled finally. Report by Anshu Tiwari.
