Disappointment in 10m men's air pistol too
Sarabjot and Arjun missed the final
India performed disappointingly in the 10m men's air pistol and rifle mixed team events and no Indian shooter could make it to the final in both these categories. After the failure of the air rifle mixed teams, on Saturday, Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema tried to make an impact in the men's 10m air pistol category, but they could not succeed in it and were eliminated from the qualification round itself.
Sarabjot missed after coming close
Sarabjot finished ninth in the qualification with a total score of 577, while Arjun finished 18th with a score of 574. Robin Walter of Germany, who made it to the final with an eighth place, also had a score of 577 but he had hit 17 accurate shots as compared to Sarabjot's 16. Sarabjot had reached the top three after scoring a perfect 100 in the fourth series, but the 22-year-old shooter failed to maintain the momentum and missed out on a place in the final by a narrow margin. Cheema had also reached fourth place at one point, but he too could not maintain this momentum.
Cheema-Sarabjot won gold in Asian Games
Both Cheema and Sarabjot were part of the Indian team that won the 10m air pistol team gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year. Earlier, the Indian shooters were eliminated in the 10m air rifle mixed team qualification stage. Two pairs of India were participating in this event. Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta finished sixth with a total score of 628.7, while Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh finished 12th with a total score of 626.3. Only the top four teams from this category had to qualify for the medal race.
